UFC commentator Jon Anik says anyone dismissing Jake Paul against Tyron Woodley ‘hasn’t been paying attention’

On August 28, Jake Paul will take on former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in a boxing match.

Paul is 3-0 in professional boxing matches right now and he has three knockouts to his name, including most recently against Woodley’s friend, Ben Askren.

However, none of Paul’s opponents had ever boxed before they fought Paul and they all came from different sporting backgrounds.

Woodley represents the most dangerous opponent yet, in spite of his recent record. He’s lost his last three UFC contests and he failed to win a single round in the process.

Still, he was a dominant welterweight champion in his prime and he has proven to have knockout power in his fists.

talkSPORT 2 spoke to UFC commentator Jon Anik this week and we dived into Woodley’s chances against the YouTuber turned pro boxer.

“He’s not fighting a professional boxer,” Anik told Fight Night Extra. “Woodley is not a professional boxer.

“We had Din Thomas, Tyron’s long-time chief corner, on our podcast yesterday and he said he thinks this is going to be great because all Tyron has ever wanted to do in fight camp is actually box put on the 10 ounce gloves.

“So, if you subscribe to that line of thinking, I know Tyron is going to put in the rounds and he is going to put in the right work. But he is not a professional boxer.

“Say what you want about Jake Paul and Logan Paul, these are conditioned athletes who have legitimate boxing aspirations.

Tyron Woodley is one of the best welterweight champions ever

“I love the fact that Jake Paul is actually taking on somebody who has legitimate boxing chops. But the reason why T-Wood is -150 betting favourite and not -300 as a 3/1 favourite is because Tyron Woodley is 0-0 as a professional boxer.

“I think there are a lot of layers to this fight, there are a lot of questions in terms of the respective cardiovascular systems.

“If you’re asking me for a prediction right now, and I know you’re not, I would lean towards Tyron Woodley.

“But I would say those who are dismissing or disgracing Jake Paul’s chances, I don’t think they’ve been paying attention to what he has been doing.”

Jake’s brother Logan just went eight rounds with Floyd Mayweather and the pair are making great money putting on these crossover events.

One of the big allures of the fights is someone knocking out one of the Paul brothers; will Woodley be the first?
