Vicente Luque wasted no time in calling out Nate Diaz after his devastating first-round win over former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.
The Argentine added the biggest name to his impressive CV with a slick D’Arce choke after recovering from taking a powerful right hand in the co-main event at UFC 260.
Woodley has not won inside the octagon since 2018 when he tapped out Darren Till in Texas, but looked back to his powerful best.
Shooting across the canvas in the first round, ‘The Chosen One’ then landed a flush right hand behind the ear of Luque.
Yet the ‘Silent Assassin’ weathered the storm brilliantly and had Woodley hurt with a powerful right hand himself, sending the 38-year-old sprawling across the canvas.
As the former champion slumped to the canvas, Luque locked in the choke to secure the win and wasted no time in calling out Stockton’s finest.
“I want to take this time to call out Nate Diaz,” he told Joe Rogan afterwards. “I called him out in the past and he didn’t respond.
“I think right now I got a big win, I got a great streak coming on and man, my style, it matches perfect.
“I’m going to go forward, I’m going to punch everyone in the face and try to get that knockout.”
Diaz has not fought since UFC 244 when he was stopped by Jorge Masvidal in Madison Square Garden, with Luque presenting the sort of fan friendly bout which could tempt the veteran out of inactivity.
For Woodley, meanwhile, his next step in his storied career is unclear with this being his last fight on his current UFC deal.
