Former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley looks set to return to the octagon at UFC London against the UK’s very own Leon Edwards.
‘The Chosen One’ last fought in March 2019 where he lost his title at UFC 235 as he was dismantled by Kamaru Usman.
After initially refusing to fight overseas, it appears as though Woodley has since changed his mind and could well be set to take on Edwards in the main event in the capital in March 2020.
Woodley took to social media on Christmas Day with a message for ‘Rocky’, writing on Instagram: “Merry Christmas @leon_edwardsmma watch what you ask for. Now you about to get f***ed clean up at the crib!
“#NoChills #UFCLondon #March21 #MainEvent #Redemption – @ufc send me that lil fancy flier to post!”
Edwards is on an eight-fight win streak in the UFC and there was even talk of a potential rematch with Usman for the 170lbs title.
But, given his Birmingham roots, it appears as though he will be the headline attraction for when the octagon returns to these shores.
Edwards has beaten the likes of Gunnar Nelson, Rafael dos Anjos and Vicente Luque in his rise up the rankings, but will perhaps be most well-known for his altercation with ‘BMF’ belt holder Jorge Masvidal at the O2 Arena earlier this year.
‘Rocky’ and Masvidal, who had knocked out Darren Till earlier in the night, exchanged words backstage before ‘Gamebred’ went over to the 28-year-old and proceeded to deliver a three-punch combination which left Edwards with a laceration under his left eye.
The Miami-native proceeded to call it a ‘three-piece and a soda’ and cemented his status as a cult hero in the MMA community.
